Deciding that a good set of bookcase plans would help me get going on my venture into woodworking, I set out to locate what type of bookcase I was actually going to be able to use.
The possibilities were amazing. I never realised just how many options were available. The first decision was – do I want just bookshelves, or did I want a free-standing bookcase as with a cabinet bookcase or a bookcase corner. Did I want a large bookcase or a wall bookcase. I even went into our local newspaper ‘for sale’ section and looked under bookcase for sale. There were a few but those I got to look at were poor quality and they wanted too much for them. Bookshelf furniture just seemed to be too expensive on the second hand market.
I eventually decided on a 5 shelf bookcase. Bookcase plans seemed to be readily available for that. And I also decided it would do double duty and I would build a bookcase desk. A great plan for that came my way. It would turn out to be a cheap bookcase as far as construction costs and it would also serve as a desk – something I need.
Plans for bookshelf furniture are easily available and this is, in my humble opinion, a great way to get into the woodworking hobby. My next project will be a great looking revolving bookcase. Got some excellent plans for this.
