I know there’s a bunch of stores like Groff & Groff and Hearne Hardwoods out in Eastern Pa, but there must be some in Western Pa. NOT looking for hardwood floors, but hardwood lumbers for woodworking like Walnut, Mahogany, Oak, etc.

I am having a carpenter friend build floor-to-ceiling bookcases for my living room renovation. I plan on painting them white and want them to look professional. I’d like to know the best type of wood for such a project. I’ve heard poplar and maple are great hardwoods for painting? Thanks!
