Why haven't I ever seen bookcases covered with soft cloth like cotton or velvet? Wouldn't that protect books?

August 30th, 2010

Wouldn’t it protect books better, when sliding in and out of the bookcase, if I superglue some kind of soft cloth covering on the shelves?

Where can I get some pink with brown or pink with black things for my room?

August 2nd, 2010

I am planning on redecorating my room. Right now I have mostly black things like my shelves is black, my coffee table is black, my bookcase is black, and my wall is actually cream white. I cant change that because my parents are just renting the house and we cant put paint on it. So now, I am thinking to where can I get some stuffs with pink and brown or pink and black on it. My sofa bed’s color is grayish black. Carpet is dark green. Can anyone please tell me where can I get some stuffs? Thank You so much for the help!
I don’t have a bed. I only have a sofa bed that I can turn into a bed if I want to. But then since I don’t sleep that much its always on its sofa position. I can probably get some small pillows to go with it. I also would like to know where to get some drapes for my window. Also does anyone of you know where I can buy some posters and all that? I am a big fan of Tinkerbell.

do you like this idea for painting a room?

July 23rd, 2010

I am sixteen, and am redoing my bedroom… I would like to know honest opinions of this idea. I am thinking of first marking off a vertical line on the center of each wall from the ceiling to floor, and painting from one line to the next white (meaning one corner of the room would be white) and the corner opposite the white one a dark maroon. both of the other walls would be black with white accents (such as shelves, a bookcase, and a window frame). On the vertical lines in the middle of each wall, i want to put this style wallpaper (http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs44/f/2009/113/9/2/Black_and_White_design_by_akuinnen24.jpg)
so that it runs from the floor to the ceiling. my ceiling is white, and i plan for it to stay that way, but i want to do some sort of bamboo flooring, like beach mats. Let me know what you think, and suggestions! thanks so much!

Where is the best place to find a replacement shelf for an antique pine bookcase please?

July 7th, 2010

Unfortunately one of the shelves in my bookcase went missing during my house move last weekend. I’d really like to try to find a matching shelf, e.g. beveled edge and in antique pine, but don’t want to spend too much money. Any ideas please?

Does tapping on a computer desk damage the hard disk of a computer resting on it?

July 6th, 2010

I just want to know does tapping or slight vibrations harm your computer hard disks, because my computer is on a computer desk and it rests on one of the supporting shelves designed for the computer and the bottom of the shelf rests on the carpet floor. I’m worried about this because my friends come to my house on a regular basis and sometimes lean their hands on the desk and tap on it. They also place or drop objects on the desk, or stand near it. I want to know will this damage my hard disk even at small levels.

How do I add more shelves to my bookcase?

July 5th, 2010

I have a tall bookcase much like this one: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5515900.

Since its height made my room look smaller, I set it lengthwise by moving it 45 degrees, or the longest side parallel to the floor. The problem is, the shelves are now partitioned vertically. I was thinking to add a shelf to the middle so that I could make 10 cubes from the 5 shelves. How would I go about doing that?

How do you seal up a window in a room you do not need anymore?

June 20th, 2010

I am building a wall of bookcases in my den and I need to seal up a window on that specific wall. I have three other windows. Once I remove the window, what do I need to do to close it up so I can build my bookcases? I need to seal the outside part of the opening against the elements, but I will leave the inside-moulding and all for shelves and build around it. Has anyone done this before? Can someone help me? Thanks!

Is there any way to reinforce a wobbly bookcase?

May 27th, 2010

I have seven-foot, freestanding wooden bookcase in my home that wobbles a bit. It’s only a slight wobble, but it makes me nervous and I’d like to reinforce it somehow to make sure the sides stand perfectly straight and it doesn’t get worse. I remember once reinforcing the sides of a wooden bed frame using some sort of thin steel connectors, so I was thinking about trying something along those lines. The case has an open back, so it will have either be hidden behind the shelves or aesthetically pleasing. I can’t bracket the piece to the wall. I need advice about what to do and where to get the materials. Simply replacing the bookcase is not an option.
