How can I get started on cleaning and clearing up my computer desk?

August 25th, 2010

Hello
I use my computer desk for homework, how do I go about cleaning it because there’s too much to do.
By clearing it up I mean;
1. Wiping down surfaces
2. Putting papers in the right place
3. And cleaning up my stationary. How much stationary should I keep and what type?

Thank you

How can I change my bedroom subtly to make a big difference?

July 25th, 2010

I have a pretty big bedroom so I have enough room for dressers, desk, bookcase, bed, drum set, and some other table and shelving surfaces. I love the way everything is arranged because I can get around easily and find everything I need.

However, I need change! I used to always move furniture when I was sick of the way the room looked, but I like the arrangement. How else can I make the room a little different? Spice it up? I’m planning on moving my posters into different places (I like the ones I have up), but that doesn’t seem like enough. A change in my room tends to make me want to keep it cleaner and I enjoy spending time in it more.

Thanks for your help!

How long does alkyd paint off gas?

June 25th, 2010

I painted my home office walls and ceiling with Benjamin Moore latex and the 6 bookcases in it with alkyd paint about 5 weeks ago. Within 3 days of painting (as soon as the paint was dry to the touch) I re-assembled the room, putting the bookcases against the freshly painted wall and books on the bookcases.

The problem is that 5 weeks later the room is still off gassing strongly even though I’m airing it out for several hours each day with open windows and a fan blowing the air outside.

I’m thinking now that because I re-assembled the room so fast it inhibited the off gassing by blocking the surfaces and that’s why the paint fumes are still so strong.

Does anyone have any ideas about how long the room will take to air out or what I could do to speed up the ventilation — or what’s happening?

Thanks!

Counter top work. In over my head?

May 27th, 2010

I have never done any countertop work. A business is authorizing me to get a countertop which is formica/particle wood and to install it perpendicular to the existing one in their mailroom. The 4′ extension will be against the existing one and against a wall so that they will have a continuing work area (countertop) along two walls. The new countertop will not be installed with any storage area below. They just want it to extend from the existing one. I am planning to cleat the back end against the wall, support the two counter surfaces meeting with a board and screws and I will support the other end of it with a bookcase unit. I do not know if I can order this unit to exact needed dimensions or if I can cut it to those dimensions otherwise. Should I just dish this off to a countertop company?
